Peanut Butter = Power Breakfast

While breakfast is no doubt the most important meal of the day, studies show that layering on peanut butter for breakfast can satisfy cravings and help control blood sugar into the afternoon – even past a high-carb lunch.

And, to celebrate peanut butter’s perfect place in the center of a power breakfast plate, Southern Peanut Growers is sharing five delicious PB recipes sure to become week-day favorites.

According to a study published in the British Journal of Nutrition, eating peanut butter or peanuts for breakfast can control a person’s blood sugar throughout most of the day, even when individuals eat a high carb lunch. Calling it a “Second Meal Effect,” the study noted that consuming peanut butter or peanuts significantly reduced cravings for up to 12 hours, while also significantly increasing the hormone that gives individuals a feeling of fullness and satiety.

That extra edge we all need every morning is also one of the most common and affordable staples in our pantry. Not only do peanuts have the most protein of any nut, peanut butter has the good monounsaturated fat with no trans-fat. Peanut butter is a convenient, versatile, healthy and inexpensive way to boost your protein intake – any time of day but perhaps most effectively at breakfast!
